Hindsight Markets Beta

A stock replay simulator for whole market days

A stock replay simulator plays back a real past trading day so you can trade it as if it were live. Hindsight Markets replays the whole US market at once, every trade and every quote on every listed stock, from the 4:00 a.m. pre-market to after-hours. You pick the day, run the clock, and trade it with simulated money.

How a replay works

  1. Pick a day. Any trading day from August 2026 forward. Each new trading day is added overnight.
  2. Pick where to start. The 4:00 a.m. pre-market, the 9:30 bell, or any time you type, up to 7:59 p.m. ET.
  3. Set your account. Your starting balance, leverage and commissions, and the pattern day trader rule if you want it.
  4. Trade it as it happens. The market runs from there. Charts, Level 2, the tape, the scanners and the news all move on one clock.

You run the clock

Play and pause whenever you like. Run the replay at half speed while a stock is moving fast, at normal speed, or at 2, 3, 5 or 10 times faster through the quiet stretches. Step forward or back one bar at a time, where a bar is the timeframe of the chart you are looking at. Type a time to jump straight to it, such as the minute before a stock broke out.

Go back and the market rewinds with you, so you can take the same trade again. Your own orders and fills after that point do not come back, because they were yours and not the market's. When there is something to lose, the replay says what before it goes back.

Why replaying the whole market matters

A replay of one chart shows you a stock you already know ran. That is not how a morning feels. On a live day you do not know which stock will move, and finding it is half the job.

You have to find the stock. The scanners rerun across the whole market every minute and only know what the market knew at that moment, so the runner shows up when it really did, among the names that went nowhere.

You can switch. Pull any name in from a scanner row, a watchlist or the search box, and the chart, book, tape and ticket follow it. One account and one P&L carry across every symbol you trade that day.

Nothing from later leaks in. News and SEC filings appear when they were published, and a filing from later in the day will not open. Float, short interest and earnings are what was known by then.

The rules are that day's. LULD bands, halts and the short sale restriction apply as they did on that date, not as they apply today.

The scanner at 10:40 ET on 2026-09-16: the low-float gainers scan led by RETO up 409% and MEDS up 240%, with float and volume, under the MEDS chart and beside its Level 2 and time and sales.

A historical stock market simulator you trade by hand

This is not a backtester. Nothing runs a strategy for you or tests rules over years of data. You trade one day at a time, by hand, at market speed or faster, with your hotkeys and every order type. Your orders meet that day's real order book: a marketable order fills against the displayed size, best price first, and a limit order waits in the real queue at the exchange you route to. What the model does not capture is listed on the disclaimer page.

Afterwards every trade is in your journal. Open one and you are back at that moment, thirty seconds before you were in, to watch it with your fills drawn on the tape or take it again.

Common questions

What is a stock market replay simulator?
A simulator that plays back recorded market data from a past day, so you can trade it as if it were happening now. Hindsight Markets replays every US-listed stock at once, with the order book and the tape, rather than a single chart.
Is there a historical stock market simulator?
Yes. Hindsight Markets lets you open any trading day from August 2026 forward and trade it with simulated money, from the pre-market to after-hours, with news, filings and scanners as they stood at each moment.
Is market replay data real?
The trades and quotes are the ones recorded on that day. Only your own orders are simulated against that data, so the market around you is real and your fills are a model.
Is a replay real time?
It runs at the market's own pace at normal speed, and you can slow it to half speed or run it up to ten times faster, pause it, step a bar at a time or jump to a time.
How is a market replay different from a bar replay?
A bar replay reveals one chart's bars one at a time. A market replay plays every trade and quote, so the order book, the tape and the scanners move too, and you can trade against them.
