News after the bell, a spike at 4:00

At 6:15 p.m. on October 20, PRNewsWire ran a headline about a $17 million advisory fee waiver, a share purchase commitment and the termination of the ATM program. The official close that day was $1.79.

It hit $3.04, the high of the day, in the 4:00 a.m. minute. Five minutes later it traded as low as $2.34. By the 9:30 open, 7.7M shares had traded in pre-market, more than the 6.4M-share float.

A wall at $2.50

It opened at $2.39 and spent the morning mostly between about $2.30 and $2.58. From 10:18 a.m. a wall of 61,715 shares sat on the ask at $2.50.

Stop It's 10:41. AHT is at $2.50. It opened the day at $2.39. A large ask wall has sat at $2.50 since 10:18. Would you buy here?

Press play: the real Level 2, tape and chart run from 10:38 a.m. and stop at 10:41 a.m. ET for your call.

Over about two seconds starting at 10:41:43, 51,812 shares traded at exactly $2.50 and the wall was eaten.

Fading into the close

A bigger burst came at 11:30, to $2.80, and it was back near $2.52 by 11:38.

The 4:00 p.m. bar closed at $2.48, 18% under the $3.04 high. Regular-session volume was 5.3M shares.

What to take from it: The biggest move came before the open, and the wall breaking at $2.50 did not lead to a lasting run.
